In the world of natural skincare, responsible ingredient sourcing is more than just a trend—it's a commitment to quality, sustainability, and ethical business practices. For Kemet Aromatics, sourcing natural ingredients responsibly means ensuring that the raw materials used in the products are cultivated and harvested in ways that support the environment, communities, and future generations.
I have a passionate story to share with you today as a woman with a small business, and as someone who gets a lot of inspirations from other women who found their path with success. When I first started formulating my skincare and wellness products years ago, I researched a few local and international suppliers who met my ethical cultivation and sustainability views, and who prioritize eco-friendly farming methods and fair labour practices. Then I looked for suppliers who are committed to empowering communities around the world. I made a humble but valued partnership with a supplier who represents a group of women in a small village in rural Egypt in the Nile Delta region. These women had a simple yet powerful vision: to create a sustainable future for themselves and their community through the cultivation of one of Egypt's most cherished flowers, jasmine. Known for its delicate fragrance and healing properties, jasmine has long been prized in skincare and aromatherapy, and this community has perfected the art of cultivating it organically.
Jasmine oil is ideal in skincare, as it promotes a more even skin tone, reduces the appearance of scars and blemishes, and can reduce irritation and hydrates skin. The aromatic oil and balm also soothe the mind, reduce stress, and uplift mood. Jasmine flowers are typically harvested at night or in the early morning hours of dawn when the blossoms are most fragrant, and their essential oils are at their peak. The cool temperatures help preserve the delicate fragrance, which is a key factor in producing high-quality jasmine oil. The harvesting process is meticulous, as each flower is picked by hand to ensure only fully opened blossoms are collected. This ensures that the flowers are fresh and undamaged, making them ideal for essential oil extraction. This community has not only become the first supplier of jasmine oils and balms to the local market but have crossed the Mediterranean to global markets of the perfumes industry in recent years. I proudly include their jasmine oil and organic bi-products in 3 of my creations: Heal the Heel https://kemetaromatics.com/products/heal-the-heel
